Slitherine Finished with Legion Arena

Readied for European release.

In a post to the Slitherine forums, Iain McNeil announced the completion of his company's work on Legion Arena (preview, their latest Roman Empire strategy game. European publisher Black Bean also announced today the game had been completed, adding that it would ship across that continent on October 21st. Strategy First is expected to release the game in North America around the same time.

Legion Arena mixes RTS and RPG game elements in this historical strategy game. Players begin with a small community of peasants in the early days of the Roman Republic and build that community into a hardened army that commands the respect of the European continent. Some of the features promised for the game include:

  • Recruit and train your troops.

  • Buy equipment and choose their skills. Over 100 skills to choose from.

  • Personalise the appearance of each squad by selecting their textures.

  • Command vast armies in epic 3D battles.

  • Earn experience and denari for your victories.

  • Two campaign paths - play as Romans or Gauls.

  • Over 100 scenarios.

  • Over 20 unique unit types including Legionaries, Praetorians, Elephants and Naked Fanatics.

  • Special effects including water, particles, lighting & night battles, weather and grass.

  • Detailed combat model designed by a double world wargaming champion.

  • Deploy your troops and issue orders before battle.

  • Real time control in battle using our innovative order time system.

  • Every unit has strengths and weaknesses. Learn how to use your strengths and exploit your enemies weaknesses.

  • Real terrain effects - cavalry are weaker in woods, light infantry are weaker in the open.

  • Easy to learn, hard to master.

  • Includes over 40 movies that set the scene with voice overs and detailed maps showing your progress.
Slitherine's Legion Arena will a require a Pentium III 1.0 GHz, 128 MB of RAM, a 64 MB video card, DirectX 9.0, and a Windows OS. Legion Arena can be pre-ordered from the Slitherine storefront and more information is available on the game's snazzy official web site.
