The latest addition to the Decisive Battles wargame series has been released on the Matrix Games web store.
Matrix Games and Strategic Studies Group announced on Thursday morning the completion of Battles in Normandy, the latest World War II wargame in the Decisive Battles series. The game follows The Ardennes Offensive (review), Korsun Pocket (review), and Across the Dnepr (review), continuing the popular and critically successful turn-based World War II wargaming franchise. While the most recent two titles, Korsun Pocket and Across the Dnepr, were situated on the Eastern Front, Battles in Normandy predictably moves to the Western Front for the famed Normandy campaign. The new game includes two campaigns, eight historical scenarios (and 1 "what-if" scenario for a more aggressive, Rommel-lead defense), and several enhancements and feature additions to the existing Decisive Battles game engine:
- New game engine with improved user interface
- New AI system
- New user friendly game and map editor
- Multiple resolution support
- Special rules for Amphibious and Airborne operations
- Carpet Bombing and Naval Bombardment
- Mulberries (Artificial Harbors)
- Bridge building, minefield and strongpoint creation
- New supply rules
- New rules for anti-aircraft and anti-partisan operations
- New options for hidden units
- New rules for extended movement and refitting units
- Extensive Rollover Help function
- Auto email and security functions for PBEM games
- Extensive Tournament and Handicapping options for PBEM games
- Evolved Units can change their characteristics mid-game
UPDATE: Battles in Normandy has now been released through the Matrix Games web store, carrying a price of $59.99. The new game is currently available for digital download only, but the boxed copy will be available for ordering beginning on September 24th.
