Location : Narvik, Norway Opponents : Germany, Norway Date : 9 APR 1940 Description : On April 9, 1940, three German destroyers under Commodore Bonte enter Narvik harbor to land troops when they are stopped by the old coast defense ship Eidsvold. Bonte sent a delegation to negotiate with the Norwegians while he carefully maneuvered his flagship to keep his torpedo tubes trained on the Norwegian vessel. As the German delegation left the ship they fired a red flare, signalling that negotiations had failed. Bonte immediately launched two torpedoes, which blew the Eidsvold up with a but a few of her crew. Eidsvold's sister ship, Norge, was also in the harbor and opened fire on the German destroyers but she was sunk by a hail of 5" gunfire and two torpedoes, allowing the Germans to occupy Narvik. This scenario was created for FSP 9.52. A .pdf file is attached. |
