It was very detailed for an RTS and had an incredible backstory that was printed in it to get players into the game itself. I lost it during a move and I still get itches from time to time to search it out online to see if I should buy one.
Civil War Generals had a great manual too that listed everything a starting player would need to understand in an easy fashion. It was one of my first strategy games I played while I was younger and if it wasn't for reading that manual I'd be swamped in trying to figure out what to do.
Because of the above, I always make sure to read my manuals for everything I get. There's always something in there you might miss or need!

I bought homeworld years ago but I cant remember the manual.

There is regularly some obscure commands or facet of the game that I wouldn't have discovered if I hadn't read the manual. Much of my enjoyment from a new game is learning everything about it, and this helps satisfy the mad, inquisitive, biblio-conquistador inside.
And, yes, I'm one of those anal-retentive people who closely reads the instructions on how to put stuff together and use them.
I had the impression that there were quite a few of us Manual Addicts hereabouts..?

And if the game is complex enough and has a wiki i may spend hours there too.

I needed the install as I was useing free Anti-Virus & wasnt able to use online purchases because of bad security fixed now so I can now buy a shinny new game, But I need to get my PCs software up and running again so cant answer to well yet on Combat Command, I believe has an editor to create modules Ive not used it but I think there is one, and editing saves I dont know sorry.
I've your looking for a Real Hex & Chit game , that generates all its numbers from tables just like a boardgame(but its done clean without complications), and plays clean & easy, with a true feel of old-skool games, aswell as realy realy enjoyable! its just the best Hex & chit there is IMHO.
You dont see the tables, but your informed in the Manual of colum shifts etc... and you can see all the possible outcomes of a D10 , and results against a Quality Check, or Disrupt or WhithDraw

Yeah, I think you are right. I have badly enough that I've saved the manuals from games I no longer play. There are a lot of little gems in many of them.
One mistake, and you're sliding down the razor blade of defeat, and a dull, rusted, and poisoned blade at that.

No it doesn't.
However the editor is very easy to use.

Back in the day of Avalon Hill, I would buy a game and read, reread, and highlight the manul before I removed one piece from the game. I couldn't understand why my friends ran when they saw a 60 page game manual.
