Hi I dont read manuals as soon as I get the game, Who Else?

I played CombatCommand a while ago & did not take to it, as its rather difficult at first without reading the Manual to play, and I make my first assessment based on how easy it is to work it. I have now found the time to Read through the manual and have found the game to be a hidden gem! I like it better than most other hex & chit I've played, all the game is true to a board wargame with result tables etc... that you can check to see how the game works if you wanted to.

Be Sure this game is worth the money and the time to read the Manual if you like hex&chit boardWargames! the game is available from Matrix.com

One of my favorite manuals I ever read was actually the one from Homeworld. It was very detailed for an RTS and had  an incredible backstory that was printed in it to get players into the game itself. I lost it during a move and I still get itches from time to time to search it out online to see if I should buy one.

Civil War Generals had a great manual too that listed everything a starting player would need to understand in an easy fashion. It was one of my first strategy games I played while I was younger and if it wasn't for reading that manual I'd be swamped in trying to figure out what to do.

Because of the above, I always make sure to read my manuals for everything I get. There's always something in there you might miss or need!

I sort of like Video Manuals like Command Ops did for Battles from the Bulge. Hope more start doing this.

I tend to bash through games then consult the manual when I get stuck, I like video tutorials the best, or easy and interesting manuals, the CombatCommand Manual is easy and required to use the game , you simply cant play unless you read it, I tried and found I thought the game bad, but have now found it to be that 1 in a million perfect game, I shall read manuals more from now on.

I bought homeworld years ago but I cant remember the manual.

I'm a habitual manual reader.  I often read them multiple times.

There is regularly some obscure commands or facet of the game that I wouldn't have discovered if I hadn't read the manual.  Much of my enjoyment from a new game is learning everything about it, and this helps satisfy the mad, inquisitive, biblio-conquistador inside.

And, yes, I'm one of those anal-retentive people who closely reads the instructions on how to put stuff together and use them.

I had the impression that there were quite a few of us Manual Addicts hereabouts..?

If it is a complex game i will read the manual. But more often than not i skip the story/fluff, unless i feel like reading or don't know anything about the setting.

And if the game is complex enough and has a wiki i may spend hours there too.

Does combat command allow editing of saved games or games in progress?  The scale would make a great operational companion to generate combat mission battles.

I've just Re-installed My Complete PC, so I could start fresh with My new Anti-virus. I needed the install as I was useing free Anti-Virus & wasnt able to use online purchases because of bad security fixed now so I can now buy a shinny new game, But I need to get my PCs software up and running again so cant answer to well yet on Combat Command, I believe has an editor to create modules Ive not used it but I think there is one, and editing saves I dont know sorry.

I've your looking for a Real Hex & Chit game , that generates all its numbers from tables just like a boardgame(but its done clean without complications), and plays clean & easy, with a true feel of old-skool games, aswell as realy realy enjoyable! its just the best Hex & chit there is IMHO.

You dont see the tables, but your informed in the Manual of colum shifts etc... and you can see all the possible outcomes of a D10 , and results against a Quality Check, or Disrupt or WhithDraw

Yeah, I think you are right.  I have badly enough that I've saved the manuals from games I no longer play. There are a lot of little gems in many of them.

One mistake, and you're sliding down the razor blade of defeat, and a dull, rusted, and poisoned blade at that.

No it doesn't.

However the editor is very easy to use.

Nefaro, I'm with you.  Even long ago when I had roomates.  I would get a new pc game and have to read the manual first.  My roomates would give me all sorts of crap for not just jumping into the game.

Back in the day of Avalon Hill, I would buy a game and read, reread, and highlight the manul before I removed one piece from the game.  I couldn't understand why my friends ran when they saw a 60 page game manual.
